MMRRC Functions and Services

The MMRRC facilities have three basic functions:

• archive biomedically valuable strains of mice and ES cell lines
• provide mice and ES cell lines to researchers on a world-wide basis; and
• conduct research to generate new information that is relevant to resources maintained within the MMRRC.

Each of the MMRRC's facilities provides the following services:

• cryopreserve embryos, gametes, or other germplasm of selected strains and stocks of mice;
• distribute mice as breeding stock to investigators;
• perform microbiologic and genetic quality control of mice bred, maintained and distributed;
• develop resources to facilitate mouse-related research;
• provide contract services for resource preservation and distribution;
• offer additional related services as specifically provided by individual facilities (please use the menu on the left to view these member-specific services), and

In addition to the normal, reviewed submission process, individuals, institutions or consortia may arrange for the acquisition, importation, cryo-preservation and distribution of individual mouse lines or collections on a fee-for-service basis. (See Contract Submissions for more information.)

As members of the Federation of International Mouse Resources (FIMRe), the MMRRC members will work with other member repositories to facilitate international distribution of mouse resources. See Requesting MMRRC Strains and Cell Lines for additional information.
