Strain Information

Malt1m1Btlr
Name: MALT1 paracaspase; mutation 1, Bruce Beutler
Synonyms: mousebird
Type: Allele
Species: Mus musculus (mouse)
Chromosome: 18
Alteration at locus: Chemically Induced
Malt1
Name: MALT1 paracaspase
Synonyms: paracaspase, D430033E09Rik, Pcasp1
Type: Gene
Species: Mouse
Chromosome: 18
Alteration at locus: Chemically Induced
NCBI: 240354
HGNC: HGNC:6819
Homologene: 4938
Genetic Alterations
ENU-induced T to A transversion at base pair 65,475,260 (v38) on chromosome 18, or base pair 44,325 in the GenBank genomic region NC_000084 for the Malt1 gene. The mutation corresponds to nucleotide two within the donor splice site of intron 15. The effect of the mutation at the cDNA and protein level has not been tested, but the mutation is predicted to result in skipping of the 126-base pair exon 15 (out of 16 total exons). Skipping of exon 15 would cause an in-frame deletion of amino acids 635-676.
Phenotype

Homozygous: Homozygous mousbird animals displayed a diminished T-dependent antibody response to ovalbumin administered with aluminum hydroxide, a diminished T-dependent antibody response to Semliki Forest virus (rSFV)-β-galactosidase (rSFV-β-gal), and a diminished T-independent antibody response to 4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenylacetyl-Ficoll (NP-Ficoll).

Heterozygous: Mice exhibited diminished T-independent antibody response to 4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenylacetyl-Ficoll (NP-Ficoll) compared to wild-type, but not as severe as homozygous mousebird mice.

Strain Development
Original mutant was a C57BL/6J G3 ENU-induced mutant; all subsequent crosses to maintain strain were on C57BL/6J background only.
Suggested Control Mice
Wild-type littermates or C57BL/6J mice
MMRRC Genetic QC Summary
The MMRRC Centers have developed a genetic QC pipeline using MiniMUGA array genotyping to provide additional information on strain backgrounds for MMRRC congenic and inbred strains. For more information on when data may be available, or to request genotyping for a strain of interest, please contact . Older strains may not have this information.
