Requesting MMRRC Strains and Cell Lines

Researchers or their institution's purchasing representative interested in obtaining MMRRC mice, cell lines or cryo-preserved materials may request materials using the online Request Form (accessible from the Catalog Search page's results listing) or by calling MMRRC's Customer Service number 1-800-910-2291, (North America) or 1-207-288-6009, (international) between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM EST/EDT on normal business days .

Steps:

  1. Select your strains or cell lines:

    1. Using the Catalog Search, select each strain or cell line you wish to request by checking the box in the first column of the catalog's search results.
    2. Once you have checked your desired strains, click the "Submit Request" button found at the top and bottom of the search results list. This will take you to the request form, which will display what is available for each strain and cell line you request.
    3. If instead of a checkbox you see a "Register Interest" button, the strain is not yet available for distribution. To register interest please click the button and follow the instructions; registering enables us to notify you once the strain is available and helps the MMRRC determine whether sufficient demand exists for maintaining a live colony.
    4. From the Request form, you can return to the catalog to search for and add additional strains to your request, using the "Add Strain(s)" navigation menu choice. Note: The mechanism will only work if your browser accepts HTML cookies from our web server.

  2. Complete the Request Form:

    • Navigation
      • The left side of the request form is the navigation menu. Use it to move through the ordering process.
      • The data entry portion of the form on the right is for entering and viewing your request information.
      • For more detailed instructions on completing the form see Request Form Instructions.
      • For more detailed help returning to an unsubmitted order request see the Unsubmitted Request Form Help page.

    • Registering:
When you first come into the request form, you are not logged in; a small message in the upper right corner will display "Not currently logged in." You may complete your request anonymously. Registering first or logging in as a returning user associates the request with your user account. When logged in as a registered user, you may suspend your request and return to complete it later; if your browser accepts an HTML cookie from our web server you will be able to return to your request using the same computer and browser as long as the request is still pending your submission. NOTE: if you do not register, be sure to complete and submit your request before leaving the Request Form pages; empty requests and requests left pending too long will be discarded.

    • Payment Information:
The Payment Information screen of the request form allows you to enter payment information for each MMRRC facility from which you are requesting mice. For Purchase Order (PO) payments, please specify the supplying MMRRC facility as the vendor on the PO. (For specific vendor information, please see the Vendor Accounts Information page.) NOTE: if requesting materials from more than one MMRRC facility, please provide a separate PO for each facility.

NOTE: Do NOT submit credit card information on our request form. The suppying MMRRC will contact you for the information when paying by credit card.

  3. Technology Transfer Agreements:

All distributions require execution of a user agreement appropriate for the strain(s) being requested. For those that require a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), please complete the appropriate agreement, obtain the necessary signatures and mail to the MMRRC following directions on the MTA forms. For those requiring the Conditions of Use (COU), either the requester or the institution’s Technical Transfer Officer may complete the on-line COU form -- please follow your institution's policies related to executing these agreements.

Currently, the MMRRC can only distribute genetic materials to non-profit and academic institutions. If you are with a for-profit organization, please contact the MMRRC's Customer Service to request assistance or for further information.

For information about mutant ES cell clones, please see ES Cell Clones page. For more detailed information about MMRRC distributions, please see Distribution Request Information.
