Genetic Alterations
Zfp423nur12is a phenotypic mutant was identified in an ENU mutagenesis screen at the Baylor College of Medicine. A C-to-T transition mutation in the fourth exon results in the introduction of a premature stop codon. Western blot analysis showed that no detectable protein was expressed from this allele. Zfp423 is located on Chr. 8.
The quantitative trait locus Amzn3 (the anatomical modifier of Zfp423) is located on Chr. 15.
Genotype Determination
Phenotype

Homozygous: Homozygous nur12 mice have ataxia and tremor and have a malformation of the cerebellum.

Heterozygous: Heterozygous mice show no nur12 phenotype.

Strain Development

Zfp423nur12 was induced on C57BL/6 and originally held on a B6 x 129 hybrid background. The line was rederived onto BALB/c. The line was crossed with 129SvIm/J to produce a congenic line containing Zfp423nur12 and chromosome 15 from 129SvIm/J.
