Introduction

Thank you for your interest in submitting your mouse strain to the Mutant Mouse Resource & Research Centers (MMRRC).

The MMRRC serves the research community by preserving and distributing biomedically valuable mouse strains and mutagenated cell line collections. The Donating Investigator (DI) or their institution retains ownership of the strain, while the MMRRC acts with the DI's and their institution's authorization to distribute the strain.

Submission restrictions are kept minimal to ensure broad access. The only submitter-stipulated restrictions we accept are:

  • Redistribution limited to non-profit institutions, or
  • License agreement required for for-profit institutions prior to redistribution.

The Requesting Investigator is responsible for obtaining any necessary patent licenses to minimize delays.

Submissions are reviewed monthly based on your application and cited references, following our Review Criteria. Pre-authorized submissions are assigned to the most appropriate MMRRC facility.

After acceptance, we’ll work with you to complete transfer and onboarding:

  • MMRRC Informatics Center obtains an MTA from the donor’s institution.
  • Provide the genotyping protocol used in your lab.
  • Share the most recent Health Status Monitor Report with the assigned facility.
  • Coordinate shipping of strain(s) to the facility (donating institution covers shipping costs).
Next submission review date:
Tuesday October 21, 2025

Strains submitted before the first Tuesday of the month will be reviewed in that cycle.
