Synonyms: Tie2-SR-B1
Type: Transgene
Species: Mus musculus (mouse)

Alteration at locus: Transgenic (random, gene disruption)
Genetic Alterations
Tie2-SR-B1 transgenic mice express the scavenger receptor class B, member 1 (Scarb1) under the control of the endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tek) promoter. This strain may be useful for studying HDL metabolism and cholesterol trafficking in endothelial cells, and protection against atherosclerosis.

Genotype Determination
ES Cell Line
Not applicable
Phenotype
Tie2-SR-B1 transgenic mice express the scavenger receptor class B, member 1 (Scarb1) under the control of the endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tek) promoter. SCARB1 is involved in the transfer of cholesterol between cells and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC). Overexpression of SCARB1 in endothelial cells results in decreased forward-facing surface of aortic lesions in mice with diet-induced atherosclerosis on the C57BL/6 background. Transfer of HDL through endothelial cells is approximately 4 fold faster from the apical to basolateral compartment than in the reverse direction. This strain may be useful for studying HDL metabolism and cholesterol trafficking in endothelial cells, and protection against atherosclerosis.
Strain Development
The Tie2-SR-B1 transgene contains mouse Scarb1 cDNA under the control of the endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tek) promoter. The construct was microinjected into C57BL/6NJ fertilized oocytes. The founder mouse 14 was mated to C57BL/6NTac. Upon arrival, mice were bred to C57BL/6NJ for at least 1 generation to establish the colony.
Suggested Control Mice
Wild-type littermates or C57BL/6N mice
MMRRC Genetic QC Summary
The MMRRC Centers have developed a genetic QC pipeline using MiniMUGA array genotyping to provide additional information on strain backgrounds for MMRRC congenic and inbred strains. For more information on when data may be available, or to request genotyping for a strain of interest, please contact csmmrrc@jax.org. Older strains may not have this information.

Colony and Husbandry Information

Cryo-recovered strains distributed by the MMRRC at JAX are shipped to the customer from the Pathogen & Opportunistic-Free Animal Room G200 - see https://www.jax.org/jax-mice-and-services/customer-support/customer-service/animal-health/health-status-reports.

Mice recovered from a cryo-archive will have health surveillance performed on recipient females. Health reports will be provided prior to shipment. If you require additional health status information, please email csmmrrc@jax.org.
