Phenotype
The floxed mice behave as would expect of NOD mice, 80-90% of females developing diabetes between approximately weeks 20 and 40, which is in line with the genetic evidence provided that all diabetes susceptibility loci are preserved.
Strain Development

Inbreeding from the mouse originally described by in the Papayannopoulou laboratory (PMID:14645544, backcrossed to C57BL/6) into the NOD/ShiLtJ (RRID:IMSR_JAX:001976) background for 10 generations. Intermittently, this line also contained the cre allele Tg(Tek-cre)12Flv (MGI:2136412 - developed on (C3H x C57BL/6)F2), which was bred out prior to archival at the MMRRC. Genotype confirmed by whole-genome screens through the Jackson Laboratory.

Suggested Control Mice
Only homozygous (f/delta or f/f) and cre-induced mice (i.e. delta/delta) have a phenotype. Suitable controls, therefore, are cre- mice, non-induced cre+ mice where cre is inducible, or f/+, +/delta or +/+ mice irrespective of cre status and induction. Where drug-inducible cre is used, use of f/+.cre+ or +/+.cre+ mice is recommended to control effects of the inducer and potential off-target effects of cre.

The litter will contain at minimum one mutant carrier; the actual number of animals and the gender and genotype ratios will vary. (Typically, multiple breeder pairs can be established from the recovered litter.) Prior to shipment, the MMRRC will provide information about the animals recovered. If you anticipate or find that you need to request specific genotypes, genders or quantities of mice in excess of what is likely from a resuscitated litter, you may discuss available options and pricing with the supplying MMRRC facility.

2 An aliquot contains a sufficient number of embryos (in one or more vials or straws and based on the transfer success rate of the MMRRC facility) to transfer into one to three recipients. The MMRRC makes no guarantee concerning embryo transfer success experienced in the recipient investigator's laboratory. Neither gender nor genotype ratios are guaranteed.

3 An aliquot is one straw or vial with sufficient sperm to recover at least one litter of mice, as per provided protocols, when performed at the MMRRC facility. The MMRRC makes no guarantee concerning the success of these procedures when performed outside the MMRRC facilities.
