Type: Allele
Species: Multi-species
Chromosome: Unknown
Name: microtubule-associated protein tau
Synonyms: Mtapt, Tau
Type: Gene
Species: Mouse
Chromosome: 11
NCBI: 17762
Homologene: 74962
Name: red fluorescent fluorophore, mCherry
Type: Gene
Species: Discosoma sp. (mushroom coral)
Name: tetracycline-responsive promoter element
Type: Regulatory Region
Species: Multi-species
Genetic Alterations

Random insertion of a transgenic construct where the Mapt gene is fused to the mCherry gene, coding for the MCherry fluorescent protein. Both genes are codon-optimized for expression in the mouse. The expression is driven by the p-tight tet-responsive promoter.

Strain Development
The transgenic construct mMapt-mcherry was injected into C57BL/6J zygotes, and three founders were identified. Founder #2 was selected for further breeding and expansion. He was mated to C57BL/6J females and progeny were screened for the presence of the transgene. The colony was backcrossed to C57BL/6J mice (RRID:IMSR_JAX:000664) for >10 generations.
Suggested Control Mice
wild-type C57BL/6J
MMRRC Genetic QC Summary
The MMRRC Centers have developed a genetic QC pipeline using MiniMUGA array genotyping to provide additional information on strain backgrounds for MMRRC congenic and inbred strains. Order Request Information

Limited quantities of breeder mice (recovered litter) are available from a cryoarchive; recovered litter usually available to ship in 3 to 4 months.

Cryopreserved material may be available upon request, please inquire to for more information.

Distribution of this strain requires submission of the MMRRC Conditions of Use (COU). A link to the COU web form will be provided via email after an order has been placed; the form should be completed then or the email forwarded to your institutional official for completion.

The donor or their institution limits the distribution to non-profit institutions only.
